BASIC Takes Place in Jordan
The Pharmacy Department at King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) in Jordan conducted its first BASIC (Basic Assessment and Support in Intensive Care Course) Research Workshop in October 2019. The workshop was led by Rachael Parke, Shay McGuinness, and Charles Gomersall from the BASIC group and Lama Nazer from the Pharmacy Department at KHCC. The workshop started with a 1-day instructor course which included 8 pharmacists followed by two days for the provider course which was attended by over 25 participants. The workshop was very well received and both the instructors and providers gave positive feedback about the format and the content of the program.
To promote a culture of research and to ensure the continuity of the learning process, the Pharmacy Department at KHCC introduced the Research Cafes. The first cafe was conducted about 2 weeks after the research workshop and was attended by over 30 pharmacists from KHCC as well as a number of BASIC instructors in Australia (through web conference). Two of the pharmacists who had attended the research workshop presented their study proposals and received feedback on how to optimize their methodologies. A second research cafe was held two months later which was another successful event!
To promote a culture of research, the Pharmacy Department will have the Research Cafes conducted routinely, every other month. In addition, another BASIC research workshop will be held in early 2020 to extend the research training to more pharmacists.
